Open Water Rowing in a Stunning Location

Looking for a unique on-the-water experience this summer? Row a traditional-style wooden dory boat in beautiful Belfast Bay and the Passagassawakeag River with a licensed Maine Guide! A wonderful way to embrace the season in a gorgeous coastal setting. You have the option to do a Rowing Lesson, which offers focused instruction rowing a two-oared, fixed seat wooden boat OR a Guided Rowing Tour, offering an unforgettable guided experience of Belfast Bay. In the Rowing Lesson, you'll learn introductory rowing skills. We'll break down the parts of a stroke and work on form and technique. You'll learn about elements of open water rowing, including tidal cycles and currents, rowing in a variety of conditions and some of the fundamentals of navigation. The Rowing Lesson is available for 1-2 people. Also, see the Learn to Row 4-pack pricing plan! In the Guided Rowing Tour we'll explore the spectacular Belfast Bay watershed. We'll observe wildlife that live here; rows are often punctuated with sightings of seals, jumping fish, ospreys, cormorants and other seabirds. You'll learn about the history of Belfast's working waterfront and our heritage of traditional wooden boats. You also may be able to try rowing! The Guided Tour is available for up to 3 people. Sessions are offered most days of the week, mornings and afternoons. Children ages 8 and up are welcome; kids under 14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Pricing is $80 per person. DWR may be able to customize a special row for you or your party--please inquire! Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat, going over rowing commands and getting seated properly and comfortably. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required in the boat. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it. Dress appropriately for the weather (translation: layers!). Temps vary this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Wear comfortable synthetic, silk or wool clothing clothing, wind resistant outerwear and footwear appropriate for the conditions. Bring water to stay hydrated--and a snack, if you'd like. WEATHER AND DWR CANCELLATION POLICY: Safety is DWR's top priority. Rows are weather dependent. DWR will go out in a variety of weather conditions, including light to moderate wind, some chop or swell, fog, rain and snow. DWR's client cancellation policy applies--please review. Look forward to rowing with you!
