Happy New Year from DoryWoman Rowing!

The New Year is well under way and with the frigid temps, fierce winds and snowstorms, an invigorating start to 2022 here in Belfast, Maine! Though I won't be rowing in the storm today (way too windy), I did row in the last one, in the Nor'easter that roared up the coast a little over a week ago. Never fear...I went out in a well-timed window in the morning when the wind wasn't too gusty. There was a lot of snow though, Sorciere filled up pretty quickly! It was a blast...such a fun way to embrace the winter season.

I haven't written a blog post in awhile and thought the beginning of the new year a good time to pen a missive to all of you! It is also MLK Day and so I'd like to acknowledge the strong change-maker Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was and his important and ongoing legacy.

I want to thank everyone who supported my nascent business this first season of DWR by booking rows with me and also purchasing my new e-gift cards, photo notecards and calendars. It was all a kind of an experiment this year! One I have been so enjoying...and that has been very gratifying. I'm grateful for your support--thank you!

Though I love to write, I also like to speak in imagery, as well. This is one of my favorite ways to capture and convey my feelings. I've put together this video as a tribute to all of the wonderful people I rowed with during my inaugural season at DWR. I hope you enjoy it!

I had the pleasure of having many people in my boat in 2021. You came from both near and far: California, the Midwest, the Southwest, several East Coast states and my own proverbial backyard! Folks that went our for rows and tours with me represented a beautiful spectrum of gender, age, ability and other dimensions of identity. There were many individuals, couples, family groups and even a few youth groups who wanted to learn to row (or be rowed) in this beautiful place I'm fortunate to call home.

And yes, I'm still rowing. A few of you have been hanging on and continue to go out with me. I'm impressed with your fortitude! On the other hand, echoing one client's sentiments, Why not row in the winter? It is one of the most spectacular and magical times to out on the water--though it may involve some rescheduling and certainly a few more layers of clothing! I'm offering rows most days of the week (or by appointment) and am planning a few special rows for February, including a "Sweetheart Row" and the "Moon & Stars Row," which has been running consistently since last summer!

Here is a slideshow of rows from December and January: Moon & Stars Row on the December Full Cold Moon, a double eagle sighting upriver, Solstice Rows, Snow Rows and New Year's Day!

An upcoming event I'd like to share with you: I will be the first presenter of 2022 for Come Boating's! Virtual Adventure Series. Come Boating!, of course, is the community rowing and sailing program here in Belfast where it all began--where my passion for rowing was born. The presentation is happening virtually on Tuesday, January 18th at 6:30pm, co-sponsored by the Belfast Free Library. It's free and open to the public! Click the flyer below to register. I hope you'll join us! Please spread the word to those you think may have an interest.

I'll be updating my calendar soon for the spring and summer season of 2022. If you'd like to row with me in the warmer months, including those who have an e-gift card to redeem, I encourage you to book your row(s) in advance! I'm anticipating a busy season as the temps warm up and the days lengthen.

If rowing is something you'd like to do regularly with me, consider purchasing a Monthly Membership. This is the plan that offers the most oar for your buck!

I can't close this missive without a plug for my online Shop. I will continue to offer 2022 DWR Calendars through February, and my photo greeting cards and print enlargements from here forward, as well as my "Gift a Row" e-gift cards. These make a great gift, year-round! I am also planning a gallery show of my seascapes of Penobscot Bay at the Belfast Free Library this July. Stay tuned on that one!

I hope your new year has started with some sparkle, some inspiration...comfort and joy...always joy. Wishing you much of that in 2022!
