The family that rows together…and saunas together!

Last Sunday, I had the great pleasure of rowing with this delightful trio. It was a birthday outing for Cat. She was happy to be the passenger while her husband Steve and son Shelby rowed!

I love to play “musical thwarts,” which involves moving around in the boat so that I can row with Steve and Shelby individually and then get them rowing together! My boat has the room to do this! Steve and Shelby just rocked it on the oars.

Afterwards, this lovely family did a sauna. And I was happy to join them for that too! It was a perfect spring day and outing!

Both Glenn and Liz are familiar faces in my boat, clients and friends! And very adventurous!

Glenn is an impressive waterman. He does many of the spring river races in Maine. On Saturday he’ll be doing the Passagassawakeag River Race. Hoping to see him in his element. This is why he has gained the name of Aquaman 🧜

Liz, she’s “the Wave” 🌊 She’s developed a thirst for these in the four years that she’s been rowing with me. She handles them well!

Fun to parallel paddle with Glenn! Wishing him all the best tomorrow at the race!

I started this video a few weeks ago, at the transition from winter to spring. Now it’s April 1. It’s starting to really feel like spring! The ice & snow seem like a distant thing. They could come back!

Melusine is the name of my sauna, after the legendary double-tailed mermaid, sometimes depicted with a serpent tail. She is a shapeshifter. A magical being, representing transformation. Being your true self. Unfurling your tail.

I named her Melusine, in part, because of her legend, and also because of her two tails. Melusine represents the second “tail” of my business, wood-fired sauna on the Belfast waterfront.

Both tails, my boat (her name is Sorcieré) and my sauna are intended to be spaces where you can be fully in your body, be your authentic self, experience adventure and take care of yourself. Commune with the natural world in all of its beauty and mystery.

Ice & snow. The ocean, ebbing and flowing. Fire & smoke. Steam & sweat. The moon, now full. Waxing & waning. Transformation.
