Chris captured the feeling, the values and spirit I’m conjuring up at Salty Witch Sauna. My sauna Melusine is a space of relaxation & healing, community & connection, play and a healthy dose of magic. It’s a space of wellness. It’s an inclusive space, open to all - all genders and ages, all shapes and sizes of bodies. It’s open to YOU!

Chris is known for her portrait work and is expanding her service to working with brands as well. She braved the cold and some fierce wind to capture these beauties (and oh yeah, so did the models)! Check out my stories for more of her fantastic work!

What else do I do besides row? In the summer, I swim. In the winter, I ski. Yesterday I went for a ski at the place I love to swim, Lake St. George.

It’s a surreal and magical feeling gliding across the frozen surface of water I spend so much time submerged in, in the warmer months.

Because it’s frozen, I venture farther than I normally do when swimming. Following snowmobile trails, I made it out to Mill Island, about a mile from shore. There was an ice shack and two people fishing. One of them saw me and offered to break a trail for me around the island. I insisted that he didn’t need to do this, but he insisted that he did! So there were plenty of semi groomed paths to ski across. And enjoy this lake in an entirely unique way that is winter in Maine.

I finished up at sunset. What a breathtaking place this is.

Lo and behold, my favorite ice cream spot @johnsicecreamfactory was open! On a Monday, no less, in early February! Thank you Louis and crew! Go out to Liberty and support this iconic midcoast biz, which is, the BEST ice cream in Maine!

There was a snow globe over Belfast harbor last night.

A wicked good time with these rugged women rowing under the rising Full Snow Moon.

17°? No matter! Rowing keeps you warm. Dressing properly helps. Hot spiced cider and ginger cookies onboard do, too.

Skim ice was forming on top of the water as we got back on the dock.

The sherbet colors casted from the cosmic dance of sunset and moonrise. The air cold and frosty. Winter full moons are the most clear.

Then…. basking in the deep heat of sauna on the waterfront. An icy dip under the light of the moon. Skim ice all around.

Wellness can mean being witchy.

Scenes from a ribbon-cutting. For Salty Witch Sauna on the Belfast waterfront! I’ve never done one of these before and it was so much fun! And those scissors, WOW!

On such a cold and blustery but beautiful) day, it was warming to have this wonderful group of people join me for this ceremony, officiated by Dorothy Havey of the @belfast.area.chamber That hat of hers is everything!

Folks got to check out the sauna and warm up, eat my famous GF ginger molasses cookies, and sip hot spiced cider. And connect with each other. Which is what it’s all about!

It’s nice to have rituals like this. I felt really supported by my community. Thank you everyone!

Of course we saunaed after! So much snow to play in!
