Row a Wooden Boat: Fall
Our signature service, fall edition! Open to ALL skill-levels. 1-3 people. Pricing is per person.
Service Description
Experience the stunning beauty of autumn out on the water in Belfast Bay in a sturdy and seaworthy wooden dory! Witness the everchanging interplay of light, sea and sky out in the bay and the palette of colors up the Passagassawakeag River. Observe the abundant wildlife that lives here. A totally one-of-a-kind experience that is classically Maine. All skill-levels and abilities welcome! "Row a Wooden Boat: Fall" is a hybrid of a lesson/tour. You'll learn something new and take in the beauty of the marine environment. We "break" for nature! Your guide will provide an introduction to rowing a two-oared, fixed seat wooden dory in open water (also, see the "Learn to Row 4-pack" for more comprehensive instruction). The lesson is available for up to 3 people, ages 10 and up. If you and/or your party prefer not to row, please note on the booking form. Autumn rows are punctuated with sightings of migratory birds, including Great Blue Herons, a variety of ducks, including Buffleheads, Golden Eyes and Long-tailed Ducks, as well as cormorants, gulls and eagles. And seals! Occasionally, we'll see otters. You'll also learn about Belfast's working waterfront and our heritage of wooden boats. Sessions are offered throughout the week, in the morning. Pricing is $95 per person. DWR may be able to customize a special row for you and your party (engagements, bridal party, team-building, youth outing, etc.) please inquire! Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat, going over rowing commands and getting seated properly and comfortably. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required on the docks and the boat. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it (and let us know). Dress appropriately for the weather. Temps can vary this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Layers are recommended. Wear comfortable synthetic, silk or wool clothing clothing, wind resistant/insulated outerwear and footwear appropriate for the conditions, along with a hat and gloves. Bring water to stay hydrated. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended. WEATHER AND DWR CANCELLATION POLICY: Safety is DWR's top priority. Rows are weather dependent. DWR will go out in a variety of weather conditions, including light to moderate wind, some chop and swells, fog, light rain and snow. DWR's client cancellation policy applies--please review. Look forward to rowing with you!
