Open Water Rowing in a Stunning Location

Slow down, tune in, get on the oars and in your body. This fall, immerse yourself in a gorgeous marine environment while learning something new. Experience the stunning beauty of autumn out on the water in Belfast Bay from a seaworthy wooden dory! Enjoy the vibrant fall foliage up the Passagassawakeag River. Witness the interplay of light, sea and sky. Row in sea smoke. Observe the abundant wildlife that live here. Drink in that horizon. A totally one-of-a-kind experience that is classically Maine! All skill-levels and abilities welcome. This experience provides an introduction to learning to row a two-oared, fixed seat wooden dory in open water (also, see the "Learn to Row 4-pack" for more comprehensive instruction). The lesson is available for 1-2 people, ages 14 and up. A third person is welcome, as a passenger. If you and/or your party prefer not to row and be a passenger, this is an option, too--choose "Guided Tour" on the booking form. In the fall, rows are often punctuated with sightings of a variety of migratory birds, including buffleheads, ducks and cormorants, as well as seals and eagles. Occasionally, we'll see a porpoise or otters! You'll also learn about Belfast's working waterfront and our heritage of wooden boats. Sessions are offered throughout the week, mainly mornings, with some late afternoon sessions. Pricing is $90 per person. DWR may be able to customize a special row for you and your party (engagements, bridal party, team-building, youth outing, etc.) please inquire! Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat, going over rowing commands and getting seated properly and comfortably. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required on the boat. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it. Dress appropriately for the weather. Temps can vary this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Wear comfortable synthetic, silk or wool clothing clothing, wind resistant outerwear and footwear appropriate for the conditions. Bring water to stay hydrated. Sunscreen is recommended. WEATHER AND DWR CANCELLATION POLICY: Safety is DWR's top priority. Rows are weather dependent. DWR will go out in a variety of weather conditions, including light to moderate wind, some chop and swells, fog, rain and snow. DWR's client cancellation policy applies--please review. Cancellation Policy

A client-canceled row that happens 48 hours in advance will receive a full refund; 24 hours in advance, half the fee will be refunded.  Less than 24 hours, day of cancelations or "no-shows" will not be eligible for a refund.  A canceled row may be rescheduled one time.  A cancelation after a row has been rescheduled will not be eligible for a refund. DWR reserves the right to cancel a row at any time, for any reason, generally due to safety concerns. If this is necessary, DWR will make every effort to reschedule the row. If this is not possible, a full refund will be issued. Rows purchased for a particular service cannot be transferred to another service. Purchased Pricing Plans are for the purchaser only--cannot be used for another or transferred to another person. Gift cards can be used for Pricing Plans.
