Looking for a unique on-the-water experience this fall? Learn to row a traditional-style wooden dory boat in beautiful Belfast Bay and the Passagassawakeag River with a licensed Maine Guide! A wonderful way to get out on the water, learn something new and embrace the autumn season in a gorgeous coastal setting. In the lesson, you'll learn introductory rowing skills. We'll focus on form and technique and break down the parts of a stroke. You'll learn about elements of open water rowing, including tidal cycles and currents, rowing in a variety of conditions and fundamentals of navigation. The lesson is available for 1-2 people, ages 14 and up. Also, see the "Learn to Row 4-pack (under Pricing Plans)!" The "Row a Wooden Boat" lesson is available for up to 3 people, ages 12 and up; under 14 with parent/guardian accompaniment. Total on the water time is approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. Sessions are offered most days of the week, mainly mornings, with some late afternoon sessions. Pricing is $85 per person. DWR may be able to customize a special row for you or your party--please inquire! Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat, going over rowing commands and getting seated properly and comfortably. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required to be worn on the boat and docks in the spring. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it. Dress appropriately for the weather (Layers!). Temps can be chilly this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Wear comfortable synthetic, silk or wool clothing clothing, wind resistant outerwear and footwear appropriate for the conditions. Bring water to stay hydrated and a snack, if you'd like. Sunscreen is recommended. WEATHER AND DWR CANCELLATION POLICY: Safety is DWR's top priority. Rows are weather dependent. DWR will go out in a variety of weather conditions, including light to moderate wind, some chop or swell, fog, rain and snow. DWR's client cancellation policy applies--please review. Look forward to rowing with you!
