Can you really row in the winter? In a sturdy and seaworthy dory, the answer is YES! Embrace the season DoryWoman rowing style with a row in Belfast Bay or up the Passagassawakeag River. A totally unique, adventurous and FUN way to experience the colder months. Experience the quiet beauty of the season, navigating ice floes, rowing in the snow, the ever-changing interplay between water, light and sky and communing with the wildlife that winters over here. There is nothing more classically Maine than THIS experience! All skill-levels welcome! "Row a Wooden Boat: Winter" is a hybrid of a lesson and tour. This wellness-focused experience provides an introduction to rowing a two-oared, fixed seat wooden dory in open water (also, see the "Learn to Row 4-pack" under Packages for more comprehensive instruction). This experience is available for 1-3 people. If you and/or your party prefer not to row and be a passenger, please note on the booking form. $95 per person. "Row a Wooden Boat" is offered Tues-Sunday mornings. Total on the water time is 1.5 hours. PLEASE NOTE: session start times may need to be adjusted due to the temperature and weather conditions. Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat, going over rowing commands and getting seated properly and comfortably. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required to be worn on the docks and the boat. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it (and let us know). Dress appropriately for the weather. Temps are generally cold this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Layers are recommended. Wear comfortable synthetic, silk or wool clothing clothing, wind resistant/insulated outerwear, a hat and gloves and footwear that will keep you warm and dry. Bring water to stay hydrated. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended. WEATHER AND DWR CANCELLATION POLICY: Safety is DWR's top priority. Rows are weather dependent. DWR will go out in a variety of weather conditions, including light to moderate wind, some chop and swells, snow, ice, fog and light rain. DWR's client cancellation policy applies--please review. DWR SERVICE POLICY Rows purchased for a particular service cannot be transferred to another service. Rowing Packages are for the purchaser (or someone else as a gift) only and may be applied to the service(s) included in the package only. The package cannot be used to pay for another seat on the row you're booking.
