Open Water Rowing in a Stunning Location

Ready for an adventure this winter? Learn to row a traditional-style wooden dory boat in beautiful Belfast Bay! In this hour and a half lesson, you will be introduced to open water rowing in a two-oared, fixed seat boat. A one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience winter on the water and learn a new skill. There is nothing like winter on the water--embrace the season in a unique way! This row is open to individuals or pairs (great for couples, family & friends), ages 12 and up! Your row begins with a safety talk, reviewing the different parts of the boat and getting you seated properly and comfortably. We'll go over rowing commands. You'll be introduced to getting the boat on and off the dock. Once we're out on the water, we'll break down the parts of a stroke and focus on form and technique. You'll learn about elements of open water rowing, including tides, currents and wind, rowing in a variety of conditions and fundamentals of navigation. Total on the water time approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. "Row a Wooden Boat" is offered weekly, mornings and afternoons this winter. PLEASE NOTE: session start times may need to be adjusted due to the temperature and weather conditions. A special "4-Pack Learn to Row" pricing plan is available for individuals that are looking for more in-depth rowing instruction, at a discounted price. Before check-out, choose "4-Pack Learn to Row" from the drop down box--or go to the Pricing Plan page via the main menu on the DWR site and select the 4-Pack. Lifejackets (PFDs) are required to be worn on the boat and docks. DWR will provide these--however, if you have your own PFD, please bring it. A self-inflating PFD is recommended for winter rowing. Dress appropriately for the weather (translation: layers!). Temps are cold this time of year and the wind can be brisk. Wear comfortable synthetic, wool or silk clothing, insulated, wind resistant outerwear, a hat and gloves and footwear that will keep you warm and dry. Bring water to stay hydrated. Sunscreen is also recommended. Rows are weather dependent. If conditions are not favorable for going out on the water, the row will be rescheduled, if possible. If not, a full refund will be issued. DWR's client cancellation policy applies. Parties will need to read and sign DWR's client liability waiver and photo release form prior to the row. You'll receive these when you book your row. Looking forward to rowing with you this winter!
